Happy New Year! Time to start fresh, set different goals, and live life with a brand new perspective.. or is it? All my life I’ve looked at the new year as a time to wipe the slate clean, forget the mistakes I made, and hope to do better. But as I’ve gotten older and experienced more of life, I realize that our mistakes shape our lives and help to mold the people we are meant to become.
The quote above is from Wild, one of my favorite books, and although I can’t compare our lives side by side, I relate to Cheryl’s thoughts and emotions in so many ways. Life is a continuous story and each chapter is meant to build upon the last one, and lead to the next. You should remember the good with the bad. And just because you may have not accomplished the things you had hoped to, it doesn’t mean you should give up on those goals— it means you should change the plan.
My head is a constant battlefield filled with more hopes and dreams than I know what to do with. Some I’ve achieved in a few months and some have been pending for over a year. 2014 was a year that I truly grew up and developed a proactive mentality. It was my year to make it happen. And I’ll admit that I slipped and stumbled at moments, but I made a lot of progress that I’m not ashamed of.
I traveled to Greece and Turkey, I ran the Nike Women’s Half Marathon as an honored #NikeTrackClub member, I took the next step in my career and started a new job, I crossed many beautiful places off of my bucket list like New York, Salton Sea, and Mono Lake, and I grew even closer to my loved ones. Oh yea, and I finally started this blog! I’d say it was a pretty incredible year :)
2015 arrived sooner than I imagined but I’m ready for it. I want to continue this story and learn more about myself in ways I don’t even know of yet. So here’s to the next chapter and another year of chasing adventure.
